Stove burner problems and repair in Mount Prospect

By Mount Prospect Appliance Repair Team

When a stove burner stops working, first note whether the problem affects one burner or the entire cooktop. Include whether the appliance uses gas, electric coils, radiant glass or induction when requesting service.

A gas burner clicks but doesn’t light

If there is a gas smell, leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or Nicor Gas at 888 642 6748. Don’t operate switches or appliances while leaving. Nicor’s emergency instructions explain what to do.

If there is no gas smell, turn the controls off and let the cooktop cool before cleaning. A burner cap moved during cleaning may not be seated correctly. Check that each cap matches its burner and sits as described in the manual. Clean spills using the manufacturer’s method.

Whirlpool’s burner guide describes cap placement and burner cleaning. If the burner still won’t light, report whether it clicks and whether the other burners work.

An electric or induction burner won’t heat

Check the selected controls and any displayed lock or error message against the manual. For induction, confirm that the cookware is suitable for the cooktop and positioned on the selected cooking area. Whirlpool explains how cookware material and size affect pan detection.

Note whether another burner works and whether the oven still heats. A photo of the display and the model label helps distinguish a control setting from a fault that needs testing.
