Dryer not drying clothes in Mount Prospect

By Mount Prospect Appliance Repair Team

A dryer that tumbles without drying needs a different check from one that won’t start. Before requesting repair, note whether the drum turns, whether clothes get warm and whether drying takes longer than it used to.

Check the load and airflow

Clean the lint screen before each load. Leave enough room for clothes to tumble, and check that the selected cycle includes heat. An air only setting won’t dry a load the same way as a heated cycle.

On a vented dryer, look at the visible exhaust duct for crushing or sharp bends. A blocked duct can hold moist air inside even when the dryer produces heat. Whirlpool’s drying guide explains how lint buildup, restricted airflow and an overloaded drum affect drying.

A condenser or heat pump dryer has different maintenance needs. Check its manual for filter cleaning, water tank emptying and heat exchanger care instead of looking for an outdoor vent that may not exist.

Describe the remaining problem

If airflow and cycle settings look right but clothes stay cold, the heating system or power supply needs further diagnosis. If clothes get hot but stay damp, report that distinction. Also note whether the washer left the load unusually wet.

A burning smell or visible scorching is a reason to stop the dryer and arrange an inspection before using it again. Ordinary lint screen care doesn’t require opening the dryer cabinet.
