The Mount Prospect "Peace of Mind" Kitchen Checklist

Living in the 60056, we’re lucky to have a community that cares—from the new clocktower at the Downtown Gateway to the friendly faces at the Mount Prospect Public Library. But even in the most peaceful home, a "cranky" appliance can ruin a perfectly good weekend.

Whether you’re prepping for a neighborhood BBQ or just getting through a busy Tuesday, here are three simple ways to keep your kitchen stress-free.

1. Be Kind to Your Disposal (The "Organics" Rule)

Now that the Village’s Unlimited Organics program is back in full swing, many of us are being better about composting food scraps. However, your garbage disposal still has its limits!

  • Quick Tip: Avoid putting fibrous things like celery or onion skins down the drain. Even the best disposals in Prospect Manor can’t handle a "pasta night" overload. A quick rinse with cold water and a handful of ice cubes once a month is usually all you need to keep it sharp and smelling fresh.

2. The "Spring Clean" for Your Dishwasher

If you’ve been doing extra baking for a local school fundraiser or just catching up on family dinners, your dishwasher is working overtime.

  • Quick Tip: You don’t need a toolkit for this! Just pull out the bottom rack and check the filter at the very bottom. A quick rinse under the sink once a month prevents that "musty" smell and keeps your glasses looking crystal clear for your next gathering.

3. Give Your Fridge Some Breathing Room

With the weather getting nicer, it’s tempting to stock up on fresh produce from the local shops.

  • Quick Tip: Make sure you aren't blocking the air vents inside your fridge with that giant Costco-sized pack of water. Good airflow means your milk stays colder and your motor doesn't have to work as hard—saving you a few dollars on your utility bill!

We’re Just Around the Corner

At Appliance MTP, we love this town as much as you do. If you’re heading out to enjoy a movie at the Centennial Green or meeting friends for coffee downtown, the last thing you should be worrying about is a leaking washer or a stove that won't light.

If something in your kitchen starts making a "funny" noise or just isn't acting right, don’t stress over a DIY manual. Give us a call—we’re likely just a few streets away, and we’d be happy to help your home get back to its peaceful self.

Happy Spring, Mount Prospect! Let’s keep those kitchens running happy.
